The South Tyrolean Farmers’ Association

In a European comparison, South Tyrol’s agriculture is in a strong position – despite small farms and often challenging working conditions. This is also thanks to the South Tyrolean Farmers’ Association (Südtiroler Bauernbund, SBB) and the farming organisations South Tyrolean Young Farmers, South Tyrolean Farm Women’s Association and the Seniors’ Association within the South Tyrolean Farmers’ Association.

The SBB is both an interest group and a service provider. With more than 20,000 members, the South Tyrolean Farmers’ Association is the largest business association in South Tyrol.

Its mission is to strengthen farming families and agricultural enterprises in economic, social, cultural and political terms and to represent its members vis-à-vis public authorities, social partners, policymakers and business organisations.

Representation of interests

The South Tyrolean Farmers’ Association, the South Tyrolean Farm Women’s Association, the South Tyrolean Young Farmers and the Seniors’ Association within the SBB represent the interests of agricultural enterprises and of people living in rural areas. This representation takes place at local, district and provincial level, as well as at national and EU level.
Almost 1,200 elected representatives are active in this work.

A key focus lies on building and maintaining networks. The SBB cooperates with a wide range of political, economic and social organisations, as well as educational and research institutions at home and abroad.

Closely associated with the South Tyrolean Farmers’ Association are the Rural Emergency Fund, the Association for Voluntary Work Assignments and the South Tyrolean Gardeners’ Association.

Service provider for farming enterprises

In addition to its role in representing interests, the South Tyrolean Farmers’ Association is the most important service provider for agricultural businesses.

Members receive advice and support from the SBB in the areas of taxation, law, business management, labour, funding, marketing, social affairs, energy and innovation. In addition, the training cooperative offers an extensive programme of further education.
More than 300 employees at the head office in Bolzano and in the district offices in Silandro, Merano, Bolzano, Egna, Bressanone, Vipiteno and Brunico are responsible for this work.
