Women farmers in South Tyrol

Women empowering women

Today, the South Tyrolean Farm Women’s Association is the largest women’s organisation in South Tyrol. Since its founding assembly in 1981, many farm women have been volunteering their time for their workplace – the farm – for good cooperation within the family farm, for tradition and culture, and for the preservation of rural areas.

Versatile, confident and innovative, they join forces within the Farm Women’s Association to seek new paths, build a strong network and demand the necessary framework conditions to strengthen the role of farm women in society.

Farm women’s services and social agriculture

The Farm Women’s Association aims to actively support farm women and open up new paths that also enable them to generate their own income. To this end, the SBO has expanded its fields of activity, primarily in the area of supplementary and secondary employment. Through these activities, farm women offer insights into life and work on the farm, thereby creating recognition and understanding for agriculture.

South Tyrolean farm women. From our hands

Farm women are versatile and talented in many areas. This diversity is reflected in the SBO’s service portal. Well-trained farm women work as ambassadors for agricultural products, as speakers for cooking, baking and handicraft courses, offer farm and garden tours or provide rural catering.

Social agriculture

The SBO oversees several school projects such as “School on the Farm”, the apple and milk school project, the project “Experiencing valuable foods with farm women” and the “Farm” teaching materials box. By experiencing agriculture and nutrition first hand, children lay the foundations at an early age for a conscious approach to food and the natural resources around them.

The social cooperative “Learning – growing – living with farm women” offers valuable services such as childcare and the care of senior citizens and people with disabilities. In this way, farm women and women in rural areas create added value for society as a whole.
